NATO straps explained

nato strap

A NATO strap is a nylon (or similar) pass-through strap that threads under the spring bars and around the case — if one spring bar fails, the watch can stay on your wrist.

Why people use them

NATOs are light, cheap to swap, and change a watch’s personality instantly. The two-piece weave under the case adds security for active wear. Thickness under the case is the trade-off: some watches sit higher; others look intentionally casual.

Fit and etiquette

Match lug width; excess length tucks under keepers. A NATO on a dress watch is a style statement, not a mistake — just know it shifts the watch toward field or casual. For formal briefs we usually prefer leather or a bracelet unless you ask otherwise.
