Coin-edge cases explained

coin edge case

A coin-edge (or reeded) case has fine ridges along the case side — like the edge of a coin — that catch light and add texture without a rotating bezel.

Aesthetic role

Coin-edge finishing gives presence from the angle other people see when you gesture. It can make a mid-size watch feel more jeweled or intentional. Depth and spacing of the reeding change how loud the effect is.

Wear considerations

Like fluting, bold reeding can interact with fabric. It also shows polishing history on pre-owned pieces — soft, rounded ridges may signal heavy polish. Ask for case-side macros when buying used.
