A GMT watch tracks a second time zone with an extra hand (and usually a 24-hour scale on the bezel or dial) so you can read local time and home time at a glance.

Local time is shown on the main hour and minute hands. The GMT hand circles the dial once every 24 hours and points at a 24-hour scale, often on a rotating bezel you can turn to show a third zone. Exact operation varies by brand, but the idea is always two time zones at once.
