What a microbrand watch is
microbrand watch
A microbrand watch comes from a small, independent company — usually direct-to-consumer or limited retail — rather than a large historic conglomerate, which can mean sharper value and design risk in equal measure.
What “microbrand” implies
There is no legal definition. In practice it means a small team, shorter history, and often online-first sales. Many use reputable third-party movements (for example Miyota or Sellita) inside original cases and dials. Some punch far above their price; some chase trends and disappear.
How we evaluate them
We look at design coherence, movement and finishing honesty, after-sales reputation, and whether the piece fits your brief better than an obvious conglomerate alternative. A microbrand recommendation is never “obscure for its own sake” — it has to earn the spot on the short list.
